Q : Swamiji, even today you say the same things that you had said in your poems more than 50 years ago. But many sages are seen to change their views over a period of time. Why is this?

      A : I started writing only after I had attained realisation and found answers to questions like “What is God?” “What is Life?” and “Why does poverty exist?” The questions had been haunting me since the age of 35. I have written more than 4000 poems in these 50 years, and in every one of them I have only said what I have fully understood. But the people who had been following Bhakthi Marga in their earlier years, only to change over to Gnana Marga subsequently, may alter their views also. This will be reflected in their speeches and writings.

Introspection

The process of analyzing and getting a total understanding of oneself.
Introspection is a practical methodology for sublimating the negative emotions of greed, anger, vengeance, etc., Between Thuriya and Thuriateetham the aspirant has to put himself though some important psychic practices under the process of Introspection in order to have his character reformed, to get enlightenment and to enjoy peaceful and happy life.

While Introspection enables us to identify the necessary steps for bringing about a harmonious transformation, Simplified Kundalini Yoga strengthens and provides the necessary power, to our mind and thoughts emanating from it, to complete the transformation.

Q : If one does spiritual practices sincerely, can he be certain to attain self realization in this life?

A : In meditation you reach subtle points allowing you to think and understand deeper. Meditation itself is not realization. When you reach the subtle and infinite state, you realize who you are, and, this state and the Static State are both the same. That realization is revelation. The Static State makes you understand itself through your psychic functioning. The same truth in explanation is enlightenment. In meditation this is experience. If both enlightenment & experience are perfect, then realization is perfect. When you are framing God in the mind, with or without figure (personal or impersonal) and searching for the same God in a book or in meditation or in teachings, then you will never meet Him.

Q : When you speak of Enlightenment of Consciousness, are you talking about someone understanding an experience of shifting consciousness?

A : What is direct understanding? You think you can understand God through perceptual experience! In the perceptual experience, two things are clashing with one another, and thus, the feeling is perceptual. Note that the consciousness doesn't have form. Neither God does have form. When consciousness becomes one with the God, then where is the clash or perception?

What is death?

After my third visit to U.S.A. in 1974, I have gone five times and spent four months a year in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981.
After my return to India in October 1981, our Bombay Centre arranged for an Intensive Course of one week’s duration at Matheran, a hill station near Bombay. Towards the conclusion of the Course, a telegram was received conveying the news of my second wife Lakshmi’s demise at Guduvancheri. Our members assemble at Matheran were petrified on reading the telegram and it was with great trepidation that they handed over the message to me. I could surmise the depth of sorrow felt by our members from their faces and whispered words.
I felt it was my primary duty then, to console our member friends who were in grief on receiving the telegram. I asked all of them to sit before me for a few minutes. What I told them on the occasion is reproduced below, as it would be useful to all:
“My dear friends, I know how sad you are all feeling. I will tell you something. What we call problems are part of life and we get perturbed over them, only when we forget the Divine order.
“When a fruit is ripe on the tree, it automatically has to fall down to the Earth. That is the law of Nature-the Divine function. Similarly when the time is ripe, man dies. Everyone born, is born only to die. Death is inevitable. The length of time between birth and death may vary from person to person for several reasons, but death is certain for all. My second wife was nearing sixty and she was not in good health. The time was ripe for her to leave the world and so the end has come about. We all have to accept it, because it is the Divine providence. The feelings over the dead person are the same for all of us. The difference is only how quickly we are able to extricate ourselves from the sorrow. Now there is no use deepening the sadness as far as I am concerned, for I cannot do anything for the dead one.
“But I have the duty to console my first wife Lokambal, who has lost her dear companion, sister and friend. Lokambal and Lakshmi were living as sisters for the past 37 years. One was never away from the other for more than two days at stretch. We could imagine the feelings of Lokambal considerably at this time. Therefore I have to go as early as possible to Madras. Please be kind enough to send me to Madras by the next available flight. May the Almighty give sufficient courage to all to bear the sad occurrence”.

Thoughts and Bio-Magnetism

The thoughts of men occur according to the following: (1) Needs, (2) Satisfaction and experiences (3) Realization. These three are otherwise called ICHA SAKTHI, KIRIYA SAKTHI, and GNANA SAKTHI respectively. Each state is of several kinds. When the thought is no Needs, there if is in emotional state. The six temperaments such as greed, anger, miserliness, immoral sexual passion, vanity and vengeance will come out in this state only. Here the bio-mag...netism will be quickly converted and also consumed to a greater extent. As a consequence, the chemical qualities and activities will be affected in the body. Out of all the emotional activities of thought sexual passion anger and mental anxieties or worries will result in greater loss of energy of the soul. If these become habits, the adverse effects would naturally be more. The State of thought in satisfaction and experience is harmonious to the body and the mind. This state will keep the body and its chemical activities in a normal condition.

Suffering

You must understand the simple fact that no-one can harm another according to his whims fancies. Sufferings come to you under the law of cause-and-effect; and the person who causes the suffering is only agent of this Law.
Everyone carries within him the imprints of his Karma. When a person does something wrong, something sinful, he has to bear the consequences of such actions. Nature has to bring out and erase the imprints of sins and thus purify him. This process of purification may sometimes be achieved by the individual's own action that may result in pain or suffering to him. At other times the pain or suffering may come to him through the action of others.

Whatever be the agency through which pain comes, you must not forget that the cause was in your own deeds and that the suffering that falls to your lot is meant to purify you.
The individual who causes pain to you is only an instrument in the hands of Nature. His own Karma has made him do harm to you. He will have to bear the consequences of his actions sooner or later, but that is not your concern.
What you must constantly remember is that nothing in the Universe can bring you suffering unless your actions warrant it.

The energy particle started only from Space; from this you can imagine the mightiness of Space itself is potential energy. A fraction of it became the energy particle. The philosophical mind can visualize this pressure force and order of function. This is not science. Science observes and calculates. Beyond these, what we understand is the philosophy of Nature.

God is not separate from anything in the world. God is all-penetrating, in everything in the world, every living being in the world. This truth must be understood. If God is understood, God’s potential and manifestations will be clearly understood by everybody, whether he is a scientist or a layman.

If imprints are the reason for one’s birth what was the cause for the birth of the first human being?

Vethathiri Maharishi Answer: An analysis about the origin of human beings will reveal that man could have evolved only from the animals with five senses.
They in turn must have come out of the animals with four, three and two senses starting from the plants with a single sense.
How do the animals with sensory perceptions ranging from two to five exist? They survive by feeding on the other animals.
This results in the creation of 3 types of imprints, viz. those relating to the killing of the other animals, robbing them and destroying their freedom.
These acts of robbery and destruction leave imprints in the body cells and the genetic centre that are passed on through the generations.
At the level of man they remain stored in the bio-magnetic field, from where they blossom into actions depending on the needs and circumstances.
Man’s outward extension is the mind and the mind is nothing but a phenomenon of the bio-magnetism.
Air can't enter the water filled vessel. Similarly material attachments can't enter the mind filled with consciousness.
This can only be achieved by Meditation and Introspection.
Why no-one in the world is able to do anything to change this degenerated situation?
whether he is a power-wielding politician or a military chief or a multi-national, multimillionaire industrialist, or a scientist.
In the primitive ages, before the development of sixth sense, man lived much as other animals do even now, enjoying the natural resources as they were.
After he learnt to cultivate food grains and give artificial shapes and artistic beauties to the natural resources for his enjoyment of pleasure and survival, his knowledge with the experiences of life developed by leaps and bounds.
He progressed tremendously in the life-style, discovering and mastering the arts of using fire, metals, electricity and atomic energy.
Also he had to face and overcome a variety of calamities flowing from natural disasters.
On the whole, mankind has passed through several ages on the Earth and derived innumerable experiences of life.
In the modern age, life is replete with properties. To enjoy the happiness of life and better comforts, the whole world is now linked in communication, transport, politics, economics, technology and spirituality.
Having acquired and accumulated all the Nature-given providences and man-made wonders mentioned above, how is it that man-kind is still suffering from and contending with multifarious problems?
Even in family-life there are innumerable problems for each individual, whether poor or affluent, educated or unlettered.
In the society as a whole, there are poverty, illiteracy, inhuman behavior, conflicts, in-fighting, litigation and crimes.
In the political administration there are bribery, party-squabbles, jealousy and vengeance.
In the economic realm there are disparity, greed, acquisitive aggression and unconscionable waste.
In industry and business we see insatiable desire to accumulate more and more wealth even though it is overflowing already, the deliberate manufacture of substandard commodities, adulteration and cupidity for exorbitant profits.
Some industrialists are enthusiastically manufacturing horrendous weapons to torture, wound and kill the human race.
In the ethics of society we see violent activities, neglect of others feelings, comforts, welfare, prestige and freedom, defiance of governmental authority and selling justice.
In the spiritual field too conspiracy, deceit and imposing on the faithful are evident.
All these inhuman behaviors are common today in the world society.
This painful state of affairs is only increasing day by day.
Fear of one’s life, a constant feeling of insecurity and bewilderment are significant everywhere.
Of course, there are good people in all places and spheres but they are also much affected mentally and physically and they are suffering from the misdeeds of others brazen in their wrong-doing.
Even though one may be pure-minded, honest and trying to lead a conscientious life, knowingly or unknowingly he is forced to get entangled in the dreadful gamble of life in the world.
Why, why all these painful situations in the world? There must be some cause for such a deterioration of human behavior.
By the pressure of ever-increasing pains and miseries, almost everyone, whether a partner in atrocity or a victim, has started thinking that this situation should change.
All should be free to enjoy a peaceful and secure life.
However no-one in the world is able to do anything to change this degenerated situation, whether he is a power-wielding politician having stupendous resources of men and material at his disposal, a military chief having serried ranks at his beck and call, an exalted religious supremo ruling a world-wide fraternity or a multi-national, multimillionaire industrialist, or a scientist capable of manufacturing sophisticated robots to help the human race and also equally capable of manufacturing nuclear bombs to destroy the entire world many times over in a matter of minutes.
Even though one wishes sincerely to do good for the world he is helpless because nothing can be done by him to change the situation. Why?
What is the difficulty?
The plain truth of the matter is that no-one is prepared to change his own concepts or behavior.

When you say "significance of sin is disease in the body or disturbance in the mind", does this mean all diseases must be wiped out in order to attain Jeeva-samadhi?

Vethathiri Maharishi answer: Even if there is disease or permanent damage to some part which gives pain, it will not affect the mind.
By understanding or fixing the mind with the supreme force, the mental state completely changes.
Thoughts abate a does action. In such a way, all the sinful imprints, unwanted imprints, will be neutralised.

What can we offer to God?

Vethathiri Maharishi Answer: Our very life goes on through the benevolence of an omnipresent and omniscient God.
His quality is love and this quality of His fills everything, everywhere, including our selves.
Hence every thought, word and deed of ours should be tempered with love and compassion. This is all that we can offer to God.

What is SIN?

Every action results in pain, pleasure, peace or ecstasy according to the time, place and object of contact and aim and efficiency of the deed.
If any action results in pain, to self or others, to the body or mind, now or in the future, that is sin.
Pain is the negative force to the living being in its effort to enjoy life. So, any pain-resulting deed and it's imprint is called Sin.
Question: Vethathiri Maharishi, How is it possible to know the existence of sin imprints?
Vethathiri Maharishi Answer: Diseases in the body and blemishes in the soul are indications of sin imprints. 

Family Peace

  A model family is one in which the husband and wife observe perfect understanding, learn to tolerate each others weak points and appreciate the plus points besides showing mutual respect to one another. If the family, in real life, is molded in such a fashion, the husband and wife can be considered as “made for each other” couple and such family will be the abode of God. - Vethathiri Maharishi

What is the difference between bio-magnetism and universal magnetism?

 Universal magnetism includes five conversions: pressure, sound, light, taste and smell. In addition to these, bio-magnetism converts as mind which feels pain, pleasure, peace and ecstasy.

If god is everywhere he is the one giving problem through others and he is the one solves it through us.
In this perspective there is no complaints. If enough spiritual awareness and intelligence is there it can be understood as a cause & effect and it can be peacefully accepted . it clears the cause out of the karmic cycle. Without accepting if we try to resist and overreact to the effects it's going to be karmic chain reactions. 
According to the developed characters in the body and mind, whatever waves emerge from the deeds, thoughts and experiences which are conflicting with the natural functioning order within and without, those waves result contamination of the genetic center.
Such contaminated imprints create problems and pains in life. Once they are imprinted and stored, they will persist for a long time, over several generations.
These undesirable imprints can be selectively neutralized by expiation, super imposition and dissolution. Everyone has the potential to do this by proper practice and moral behavior.
Man's poverty of knowledge renders him incapable & inadequate to cope with the richness of materials available. Man's mind goes beyond the realities & floats in imagination, deviating from the realities of nature. Instead of his needs prompting the search for materials, comforts & environments, the profusion of available materials induces the needs nowadays in human society. Only imaginary expectations bring all the troubles in life.
We are able to control the flood by building dams and storing the water & use it properly. Like a flood, the physical & mental forces of mankind are flowing in chaos without control or streamlining. The results are disturbances, problems, pains & miseries. We have to build a reservoir to store the valuable labor forces & intellectual forces of mankind so as not to go waste or astray. Also we have to channel them by proper planning in a creative way. Then only the fields of religion, health, economics, politics & science will do good to the people, maintaining their serenity & purpose. 

The causes for the miseries of mankind are, 1. Ignorance of the mode of evolvement of pain & pleasure 2. Ignorance of the law of nature. 3. Ignorance of the
social set up.
Three ways of life without miseries are 1.Conscious status.2. Divine status. 3. Virtuousness.

Knowledge gained regarding these three would pave the way for life without miseries. Learning through experiences in life & adopting virtues would result in peaceful, happy & wonderful life. 
Giving alms is considered charity by many & people go in search of beggars to offer alms on holy days. This is fallacious. Charity is giving to the needy, those in pain & suffering. Pressure cookers are provided with safety valves, which allow the excess steam to escape & prevent explosions. It is not proper for anyone who earns millions to keep all his wealth for himself ; he is likely to explode like the cooker, when his earnings go beyond a certain point. It was for this reason that acts of charity, which released some of the wealth to the needy, was advised by the seers of old...
One must value his own physical strength, knowledge, economical status, education, potential and environment & disperse his duties accordingly. He should maintain himself & then do good to his family, relatives, townsmen & the world. 
Knowledge comes from knowing; and knowing comes from perception, in terms of Volume, Force, Time & Distance. These four parameters form the dimensions of all the things in the perceptible universe. In the absence of the above parameters, things remain imperceptible. When perceptions turn inward & the presence of the Divine Consciousness within become evident, knowledge transforms into wisdom.
A bride while taking leave of her house says 'I am going to mother in law's house. After a year or so that has become 'my home' for her now What is the change in the psychology of the girl. Likewise, while in meditation, we are in direct & conscious communion with the Absolute, & in the process of time, confirmation arises in us that we are the Absolute, the Truth Perseverance leads to transformation and the gains are consolidated at this stage.
Magnet means all the objects in the Universe are joined together & control their functioning as if in a net. Since the divinity itself a fluid the magnet which is the part & parcel of the divinity is also a fluid. Magnetism is present in all the objects in the Universe right from the dust particle, we can say that there is no object in the Universe without magnetism.
As the natural evolutionary process, the face of the earth was changed by earth quakes, volcanos & floods. The human families were scattered to several parts of the world. There is really only one family of the human race. Now we are forgetting our own society, getting conflicts, hatred & fighting with one another individually & as group, dividing ourselves on the name of the country, race, religion, language & caste.
Specific Gravity: After the combination two energy particles it will became an element . With the element some more energy particles will go on adding continuously. In every object which rotates at a high speed naturally the energy particles with lesser speed will tend to move towards the centre and the weightless energy particles will move towards the surface .This process is known as specific gravity

Vethathiri Maharishi (Swamiji's) lecture on the concluding of Silence retreat (30th Nov. 2003):

All of you have linked your thoughts with Divinity and observed silence for several days. I wholeheartedly bless all of you; May this experience remain with you throughout your lives. May your family members and friends live in contentment and happiness.
Each human being should realize the truth. You all observed silence. You may have had lots of experiences. In silence thoughts are not brought into action. All day and night one has thoughts and the genetic center is always acting accordingly. In our body, the dust (ether) emits as waves. That is, due to repulsion it emits from the life force particles as waves and this is called bio-magnetism. Outside the body it is universal magnetism.
We experience the outside world through our senses and understand every perception through our minds. What is the base for the mind? We see waves in the sea. Waves are only the movement of water. When there is no movement it is only the sea. Similarly, when the wavering of the mind stops it is consciousness.
What is it? It is Almighty, God, which is present everywhere. The consciousness attains its perfection only in the human being. The Space is the stock-force and when it starts functioning it becomes the Universe. Due to its own self-compression the space starts spinning as quantized dust and. again due to the surrounding compression it is forced to group to become energy particles and these emit the constituent dust as waves. This wave is called magnetism.
So the mind is the biomagnetic wave. As everything else, the biomagnetic system is always under the influence of surrounding compression. All the experiences are stored in the genetic centre and these come as thoughts. From the first sense living being up to the sixth sense human being all the experiences are compressed and stored in the genetic centre. So the potential of the human being is enormous. When we trace our antecedents, going back from our parents, 
we reach the animals, then the plants and finally the dust. Where did dust come from? It came from the Space. In this way we all came from the space.
When we sit quietly we get many thoughts. In silence we have the time to analyse them. When we are having good thoughts we are happy physically and mentally. We have to avoid bad thoughts. What do we want in life? We need everyone’s friendship. So our thoughts should be always pure. Good thoughts will improve the welfare of the society. Negative thoughts will spoil the genetic centre and the society. With good thoughts life will be peaceful, happy and prosperous. Only in that state we can realize who am I? In silence we analyse our thoughts and avoid diversion and loss of awareness. When we avoid anger and moralise our desires only good thoughts remain. We can analyse each desire by asking a question, ‘Is it necessary to fullfil this desire?’ List out the desires
and analyse them. We need food, clothes, houses, friendship, etc. We have practical methods to introspect and analyze our thoughts.
Therefore, now and then list your thoughts and analyse them. Thoughts come from the genetic centre as water springs from a source. It is the centre for the physical, astral and magnetic bodies. Thought will cease only when we die. The body will decay but the genetic centre(soul) will continue. Previously, I used to keep silence for one month every year. When we reduce the unwanted thoughts, we become one with Almighty, God.
We realize that Space itself transformed in to dust, energy particles, elements, the cosmos and finally from one sense living being to six sense human being. For identification different names have been given but remembering the truth we can see God in everything. Consider the food you consume every day. It gets transformed into seven kinds of tissues. Who is doing this? None of us can do it. Only the Divine power is doing it. This miracle is happening in each and every body, every day. Everything is going on perfectly by the grace of God. It is all because and by the work of Almighty. So we should respect nature and every living being.
In Bhagavad Gita, it is said: “Those who see Me in each and everything, I will never leave; They will be always with Me”. If we realize this we will not give pain to others. When we follow this two-fold principle we can live happily. When one person derives happiness at another person’s cost, then he has to take many years to purify himself. When we follow these moral principles, they become habits and finally established culture. But we must be aware that the same old negative
thoughts will flare up to induce the same actions from time to time, again and again. This experience in silence will give you more strength to avoid unwanted thoughts. I respect all of you and see you as God and bless all of you with good health, long life, happiness and peace.
